Nissan Financing Frequently Asked Questions
01
What are current interest rates to buy a car?
Nate: If you buy from a manufacturer like Nissan per se, they come out with 0%, 3.9%, and 4.9% up to 84 months. Now, if you choose to go to a bank, I am seeing as low as 4.99% up to 72-75 months.
02
What is the best length for a car loan?
Bo: The answer on this one is pretty easy: it just depends on your budget. However, most people will take the loan out 72 or 75 months, we're seeing it's pretty popular right around there. We've even seen people take it out as far as 84 months just to keep a lower payment. The answer to that question is entirely up to your budget.
03
How much of a down payment do I need to finance a car?
Nate: Typically, you really don't need any money down. I always suggest to my customers: if you want smaller payments, you should put more money down. If you don't care about the payments, you don't really have to put any money down if your credit is for a qualified buyer. Now, if you have lower-end credit, sometimes the bank might want you to put 10% to 20% down.
04
Can I sell my car while I'm still paying it off?
Nate: Yes, you can sell your car whenever you like, but you are responsible for the remaining balance.
05
I have a low credit score, can I still finance a car?
Bo: The answer to that question is yes, you still can finance a vehicle. Now, there's a lot of factors that play into that, especially having a lower credit. If you can come up with $2,000, $3,000, $4,000 down, we can definitely get you approved there, or have a strong co-signer to go on the loan with you.
06
I don't have a credit history yet, can I still finance a car?
Bo: The answer to that question is also yes, you can still finance a vehicle. It also depends on how much money that you have down. Typically we ask for $2,000, $3,000, or $4,000 down, typically 20% of the vehicle. And also having a strong co-signer to be on the loan with you definitely helps out as well.
07
How do I get a good interest rate?
Nate: Well, getting good interest rates kind of boils down to two different things: a credit score and money down. Banks like to see that you have money down because then that tells them that you are a responsible buyer, so they will give you a lower interest rate. Also, if the manufacturer is already pre-approving you for 0%, for 2.9%, or 3.9%, that's another good way to get interest rates.
08
Can you offer a better interest rate than my pre-approved rate?
Bo: The answer to that one is yes. We have access to over 40 different banks, so the odds are that we can beat your rate at your pre-approval is pretty high.
09
Can I add a warranty when I buy a car?
Bo: The answer to that one is pretty simple: yes, you can. Now, it does depend on the year of the vehicle and also depends on how many miles the vehicle has on it whenever you do purchase it. Typically with warranties, you cannot add them on if they're over 150,000 miles or if they're more than 12 years old. However, you can purchase a warranty at the time of purchase with your vehicle.
10
What additional costs will I be responsible for when buying a new car?
Nate: Additional costs when buying a car that you should always be prepared for: you should be prepared for your taxes, you should be prepared for title and licensing fee, and you should be prepared for any type of maintenance or warranty that you want to add on to the vehicle.
11
How can I find the value of my trade-in?
Nate: There are a few ways to find your trade-in value. The first way I would suggest to find the absolute best is to head down to your local dealership. The second way, you can go to KBB® or you can even go to CarMax; they give you hypothetical values, but sometimes they're very, very close to what the value should be.
